TRACK OF THE WEEK: KOFFEE – RAPTURE

Rebecca – After taking the Reggae and Dancehall world by storm with ‘Raggamuffin’ and finding her way smoothly into the mainstream with ‘Toast’ while maintaining her unique tone and style, the 19-year-old Koffee from Spanish Town just dropped her 5 track debut EP ‘Rapture’. The title track is coming on just as strong with A COLORS SHOW performance.

As if that wasn’t enough already she enchanted 10 thousands at Buju Blanton’s epic ‘The Long Walk To Freedom’ concert that took place last Saturday at the National Stadium in Jamaica.

In case you missed any of that, go check exclusive content and a special interview with Koffee our sister company ‘This is brukout’ captured with Seani B. It’s a good look to see Reggae and especially young, female talent be embraced like that. Can’t wait for more of that.

Track of the week: Dave – Black

The new single ‘Black’ from UK rapper Dave has been a hot topic this week and it’s a discussion of black British identity, the track is important, bold and really great. It’s our track of the week

Yaw Owusu: There’s a lot of good music out at the minute, but my selection would have to be BLACK by Dave. I must be honest, I’ve not been drawn in by Dave so far; I think he is good but have never been “in” yet. THIS song however was really refreshing and gets me intrigued about his coming works.
Reminiscent of the impact of when I first heard ‘Cry’ by Swiss or ‘Black Boys’ by Bashy – this is unapolegetic, intelligent and current!

“The blacker the berry the sweeter the juice,
A kid dies, the blacker the killer, the sweeter the news
And if he’s white, you give him a chance, he’s ill and confused
If he’s black he’s probably armed, you see him and shoot”

Absorb and respect these lyrics and this new voice because I have a feeling this is just an insight into what he will deliver on his debut album and beyond.
